Excel pivot tables based on a Power Pivot data model have an annoying habit of changing their column widths automatically as you add or remove fields.
I've set columns B and C to the width I want.
Adding a new column changes the column widths.
Column B became wider and column C became narrower.
To prevent this behaviour, right-click on the pivot table and choose PivotTable Options...
Uncheck the box next to Autofit column widths on update and click OK.
Now your pivot table columns will retain their widths as you make other changes!
