In this tip
Drill down lets your user switch between levels within a visual's hierarchy.
You can add multiple fields into your visual's X-axis in Power BI to create a hierarchy.
Here we are using the built in date hierarchy in the X-axis of a line chart.
To drill between the levels, right-click a data point and choose Drill down from the list.
This will switch the x-axis to the level below (Quarter) and apply this data point (Year 2020) as a filter.
When I drill down my visual is filtered but so are all the other visuals on the page!
This can be confusing and frustrating for your end users.
You can change the default drill down behaviour so that it affects only the selected visual by choosing Data/Drill | Apply drill down filters to | Selected visual from the ribbon.
Entire page is the default on all visuals.
Now when you choose Drill down only that visual will be affected.
This does not affect your ability to cross highlight or cross filter by left clicking a data point.
