Power BI Desktop updates for August 2025 |
---|
Although there were lots of changes to the Power BI Service and to Power BI connectors, the vanilla Power BI Desktop just saw one change this month: improvements to the text model editor.
We've been creating our idiosyncratic monthly blogs on Power BI updates since November 2016, and also deliver online and classroom Power BI courses. |
The only real change to Power BI Desktop per se this month was for the model text editor view:
TMDL (or Tabular Model Definition Language) view.
You can now drag a table, column or measure from the list on the right to script it:
Here we've dragged the Total sales measure onto the script window.
When you release the mouse button Power BI will create script for the thing you've dragged:
This is so much better than things used to be!
You can also script something called "named expressions" in TMDL view, although unless you know how to write formula in Power Query using M you're unlikely to care about this (you can see the details here).
