In Power Query for Excel, the default data load settings add the results of a query to an Excel table in a new worksheet
Clicking the top half of the Close & Load button will add a new worksheet and load the query results into a table.
If you're building a Power Pivot data model, it's more likely that you'll want to load the query results into the data model and avoid placing it in an Excel worksheet. To do this, you would need to click the bottom half of the Close & Load button and choose Close & Load To...
Choose this option.
Then complete the dialog box as shown below:
Choose Only Create Connection and Add this data to the Data Model.
It's tedious to do this for every query you create so, instead, you can change the default data load settings. To do this, from the Power Query ribbon choose File | Options and settings | Query Options and then navigate to the GLOBAL | Data Load page.
Choose Specify custom default load settings then choose where to load the query results.
Close and reopen Excel, then the next time you click the top top half of the Close & Load button for a new query, the results will be added to the destinations you've selected.
