This will generate the database that you'll need to use in order to do this exercise (note that the database and script are only to be used for exercises published on this website, and may not be reused or distributed in any form without the prior written permission of Wise Owl).
Create a new file in Power BI Desktop, and import the following tables:
These are the tables that you'll need for this exercise.
In Query Editor, add the following new column:
Show the product name in the style of (for example) Donald the Human.
You can use the & character to concatenate (join) the different bits of text to create your new column. Note that you could equally well have create this column this using a calculated column.
Create a matrix showing the number of purchases for each environment and centre type:
Matrices in Power BI Desktop are similar to matrices in Reporting Services.
Apply conditional formatting to your matrix:
Right-click in the data field well to apply conditional formatting.
It should now be obvious where the most sales occurred:
This heat map shows Land sales in Shopping Centre venues were the most popular by far.
On a separate page of the same report, create a tree diagram showing the number of purchases by product:
Use the new column that you created earlier in this exercise.
Go back to Power BI Desktop and save this report as Tree Tops, then close it down.
