In Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.) when you click and drag to resize a shape you can accidentally change its proportions.
Here I've drawn a rectangle whose width is twice that of its height.
If I click and drag one of the corner handles, I can unintentionally change the shape's proportions.
I've accidentally stretched the shape horizontally.
To maintain the shape's proportions while resizing it, hold down the Shift key as you click and drag.
Holding Shift while clicking and dragging forces the shape to maintain its aspect ratio.
