October 2025 competition - identify the misprinted films |
---|
For this month's competition we have created pictures showing 18 films, but each film title contains a single misprint. Identify at least 12 of the films correctly to get your name into the sorting hat, with a chance of winning this month's £50 voucher. |
In this blog
This month we are asking you to identify 18 films, loosely divided into 3 categories: easy, middling and hard. However our AI artist has sadly misinterpreted his/her brief, accidentally misreading one (and only one) of the letters in each film title.
Here's an example to give you the idea:
Film | Clue |
---|---|
![]() | 4 words, released in 2012. |
The answer to this would be The Lift of Pi, which is a single misprint away from being The Life of Pi, released on 20th December 2012 (and based on Yann Martel's excellent book of the same name).
Regular readers won't be surpised to know that we generated all of the pictures using ChatGPT. By far the hardest was this one: you can see a summary of the trials and tribulations involved in getting the correct lift buttons for this screenshot in this separate despairing blog.
Easy is a relative word in this context, but these titles should be easier to guess than some of the ones which appear further down this page:
Film | Clue |
---|---|
![]() | 2 words, released in 1995 |
![]() | 3 words, released in 1994 |
![]() | 4 words, released in 1991 and also 2017 |
![]() | 1 word, released in 2007 ( *) |
![]() | 1 word, released in 1975 |
![]() | 1 word, released in 1996 |
(*) For these two films the picture will give a misprinted title containing two words: you should join these together to get the correct single-word answer.
Some of these are a bit tricky. Don't forget that you only have to get 12 titles right to enter the competition!
Film | Clue |
---|---|
![]() | 6 words, released in 1975 |
![]() | 2 words, released in 1982 |
![]() | 4 words, released in 1965 |
![]() | 2 words, released in 1986 |
![]() | 2 words, released in 1977 under this title |
![]() | 4 words, released in 1946 |
I can only apologise for some of these. Remember that you don't have to get all of the titles right to enter the competition - just 12 of them:
Film | Clue |
---|---|
![]() | 1 word, released in 1998 and also in 2020 |
![]() | 2 words, released (alas) in 1990 |
![]() | 2 words, released in 1968 (and also apparently in 1948 and 2005) |
![]() | 4 words, released in 1937, 1954, 1976 and 2018 |
![]() | 5 words, released in 2013 |
![]() | 1 word, released in 1997 |
To enter the competition, please send at least 12 answers (we only need the correct film title, although you're welcome to give the misprinted title too if you want) to the following email address:
The email address to send your answers to.
If you enter the competition before lunchtime on Monday 29th September you will get a reply giving the films you couldn't identify, to put you out of your misery. You're welcome to enter the competition after this but you will have to wait a couple of weeks to get the correct answers as your newsletter editor will be on a well-earned (?) holiday! The first answer with at least 12 correct titles picked out of our randomised Excel sorting hat towards the end of October will win a £50 voucher and a mention in the next newsletter (so giving you kudos and money ...).
