Changes for the May 2022 Power BI Desktop update
Part one of a five-part series of blogs

Small improvements this month, but welcome ones - particularly the ability to zoom in and out, and to select data points in (some) charts using a selection rectangle.

  1. Changes for the May 2022 Power BI Desktop update (this blog)
  2. You can now zoom in and out in Power BI Desktop!
  3. Lassoing data points using a rectangle for a chart
  4. Automatically expanding all formatting categories
  5. ArcGIS has improved - apparently

We've been creating our idiosyncratic monthly blogs on Power BI updates since November 2016, and also deliver online and classroom Power BI courses.

You need a minimum screen resolution of about 700 pixels width to see our blogs. This is because they contain diagrams and tables which would not be viewable easily on a mobile phone or small laptop. Please use a larger tablet, notebook or desktop computer, or change your screen resolution settings.

Changes for the May 2022 Power BI Desktop update

Although this is a quiet month, the changes which have been made will definitely make Power BI pleasanter to use:

Change Notes
Zoom enabled You can now - finally - zoom in and out for reports.
Lassoing chart points You can use a rectangle to select data points on certain charts (bar, line, area, scatter and map).
Permanently expanding categories You can toggle an option to make Power BI expand all categories when you go to a formatting card.
ArcGIS improvements ESRI have made a "quality release" to the ArcGIS visual (though we still don't like it!).

In addition to the above, there are two new features now in preview: field parameters and error bars for line charts (neither feature will change your life, however).
