Answers to the Wise Owl December 2022 Quiz

We hope you enjoyed our Christmas quiz (apologies for setting the bar a tad high; you will have done well to get even a few answers correct).

Congratulations to Stephen Mulford of Newham Council whose entry was the first pulled out of our weighted sorting hat (weighted so that people's chances of winning were higher the more questions they answered correctly).  Stephen wins the bumper prize of a £100 Amazon voucher, together with this shout-out.

Here are the answers to the questions - see how many you got right!

Question 1 - Cats

The items in the series are as follows:

Item What it represents
Old Testament story Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat

The next Andrew Lloyd-Webber Musical was Cats, so any answer describing this will be accepted.

Question 3 - Me

The items given in the series were:

  • Socialists
  • Trade Unionists
  • Jews

This question is based on the most popular representation of a speech by Martin Niemoller, a German pastor (and former Nazi sympathiser):

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak for me.

The answer is ... me (or you).
