| After nearly 10 years, we are retiring our monthly Power BI updates blog |
|---|
| We first produced our monthly Power BI updates blog in November 2016 - after nearly 10 years, we have decided that this series has finally outlived its usefulness and it's time to retire it. |
Many significant things happened in November 2016:
Andy Murray became the ATP tennis world number one;
Paul Nuttall was elected leader of the UKIP party (remember them?); and
I wrote my first monthly Power BI update blog.
Here's how the updates began (sadly we deleted blogs before 2022, so I can't show these in any more detail)

The first few Power BI updates we documented - you can see the full list here.
So why stop now? What's been happening in recent months is that most changes have fallen into one of three categories, none of which is of particular interest to most of our clients, I think:
Type of change | Notes |
|---|---|
Minor formatting | The formatting cards for most panes have now become so comprehensive that I don't think it's particularly useful to highlight the addition of one or two more extra properties. |
Copilot | Many of the new features Microsoft announce are to do with Copilot in Power BI, which many clients won't have access to because their tenants won't have been configured to show it. |
Complicated and niche | Features like translytical task flows are great, but they won't be of interest to most users of Power BI. |
I will still continue to blog on new updates which I think report creators should know about - I've done so this month - but to be honest I won't miss having to cover every single minor Power BI change each month!
