Why choose between using Python and Excel when you can now have both?

Should you choose Excel for the glossy user interface, or Python for the advanced data-handling tools? Soon you will be able to do both - Excel now allows you to insert Python script to return dataframes or MatPlotLib charts within an Excel workbook, although this is currently only in preview.

We're launching a version of our introduction to SQL course using Azure Data Studio as editor

Up to now we've run our two-day Introduction to SQL course using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) as the editing environment, but we've now bitten the Azure bullet and are running a separate SQL for Azure Data Studio course. What should a newsletter editor do when he (and it is a he) learns of two incredibly useful life hacks (on editing text messages and locating fuel caps in cars)? Suppress the information ... or share it?

The August Power BI Desktop update only includes a couple of small changes

We - and you? - still wait for the release of on-object interaction. In the meantime the August 2023 Power BI update gives new icons to toggle between desktop and mobile view, and a new way to scale bubbles in a scatter chart.

Our (hard!) second film rebus competition attracted 21 entries - see the answers, and winner

We may have set the bar a bit high for this competition, although 3 out of the 21 people entering did somehow manage to get all 15 answers correct. Congratulations to Denzil Foakes of Skanska for winning this month's £50 Amazon voucher. You can see the answers - with explanations - to every question here.
