You can use Excel's Focus Cell feature to highlight the row and column of the active cell. To enable this feature, from the Excel ribbon choose View | Focus Cell
This is especially useful when working with large tables of data.
If you don't like the default colour, you can change it by choosing View | Focus Cell | Focus Cell Color from the ribbon.
Pick your preferred colour from the list.
At the time of writing, this feature is only available to users working in Excel's Beta Channel on Version 2410 (Build 18118.20000) or later.
