Updates to Power BI Desktop - February 2022
Part one of a four-part series of blogs

The February update enables the big new formatting pane in Power BI by default, as well as introducing changes to mobile view and multi-row cards.

  1. Updates to Power BI Desktop - February 2022 (this blog)
  2. The new formatting pane is now live (sort of)
  3. Mobile-optimised Reports and Mobile-Only Formatting
  4. Multi card visuals now support visual interactions

We've been creating our idiosyncratic monthly blogs on Power BI updates since November 2016, and also deliver online and classroom Power BI courses.

You need a minimum screen resolution of about 700 pixels width to see our blogs. This is because they contain diagrams and tables which would not be viewable easily on a mobile phone or small laptop. Please use a larger tablet, notebook or desktop computer, or change your screen resolution settings.

Updates to Power BI Desktop - February 2022

This update includes the following new features:

Feature Notes
New formatting pane This big, big change is still in preview, but it's now turned on by default, which gives us the green light to start teaching using it (and for me to blog on it here).
Formatting visuals for mobile view You can now change the format of a visual for mobile view.  Even though this feature is in preview at the moment I'm covering it here because it's such a big strategic development (you may now have to maintain two versions of the same report).
Multi-row cards are interactive You can now click on one or more rows in a multi-row card visual to select them, which will filter what's displayed in other visuals on the same report page.

As you'll see when you read through these blogs, I've had a few problems getting the new features working, but I suspect this is because I've got such a strange software set-up on my laptop.
