Google Sheets: 5 reasons you should be using them
Part three of a five-part series of blogs
This blog lists 5 reasons why you might like to consider using Google Sheets (perhaps as an alternative to Excel?).
Google Sheets is an online spreadsheet application. In this blog we show 5 reasons you should give it a try.
If you are familiar with recording macros in Excel, you’ll feel at home with the Macros option in Sheets. Click Record macro, perform your actions and watch as the code is written for you.
This Owl humbly recommends a better naming convention than Script2.
You can run a script from the Macros list or you can assign it to a button on the sheet.
There are no built in icons like in Excel but you can import images.
Without using variables the references can get quite long!
You don’t have to run a macro manually, instead you can attach it to a trigger. There are event triggers, like the sheet being opened, and time based triggers (like once a day).
The trigger options are currently not as extensive as VBA.
One point to note: some macros will - not that surprising really - only work when the user is logged in.
