A minimal Power BI update for August 2022 |
---|
There's a tiny change to conditional formatting of data labels this month, but that's about it!
We've been creating our idiosyncratic monthly blogs on Power BI updates since November 2016, and also deliver online and classroom Power BI courses. |
In this blog
This is a blog which is barely worth writing, but in the interests of completeness ... here goes.
This is surely a niche formatting request:
In the chart above, any total price values above 30k appear in green font, and any total quantity values above 15k appear in blue font.
Here's where you set conditional formatting like this:
Here we've chosen the Price data series, and have set the Color property to be a rules-based expression.
There are at least two restrictions to this:
Restriction | Notes |
---|---|
No legends | Microsoft have stated that a bug prevents them getting this feature working for charts which have a field in the Legend area of the field well, but that they will solve this by next month. |
No backgrounds | Although you can conditionally format the font colour, the background colour of data labels appears (for now) set in stone. |
Microsoft are excited about the new metric visual in preview, but I think it's field parameters which will change your life:
As to when any of the first four features will ever see the light of day - who knows?
And that's about it for this month (there are changes to do with setting the sensitivity of reports, but this blog concentrates on report design, rather than publication).
