Before you can do this exercise, you'll need to download and unzip this file (if you have any problems doing this, click here for help).

You need a minimum screen resolution of about 700 pixels width to see our exercises. This is because they contain diagrams and tables which would not be viewable easily on a mobile phone or small laptop. Please use a larger tablet, notebook or desktop computer, or change your screen resolution settings.

Open the file called WODA Application.xlsm and click the button on Sheet1 to apply to the Wise Owl Dating Agency.  Take care to enter a valid date in the second input box.

Invalid date

If you enter an invalid date into this input box, you'll encounter a run-time error.

Find the subroutine called AddDetailsToList and identify this line of code:

YourDoB = InputBox("Enter your date of birth")

Add an On Error statement above this line which redirects the code to a separate section of the subroutine when a user tries to type in an invalid date.

Don't forget to disable your error-handler after this line using the On Error GoTo 0 statement.

Create an error-handling section at the bottom of the subroutine which displays a message to the user and then ends the procedure.

Error message

Your message could look similar to this one.

Don't forget to add an Exit Sub statement just before the error-handling section.

Test the system works then save and close the file.
