Before you can do this exercise, you'll need to download and unzip this file (if you have any problems doing this, click here for help).

You need a minimum screen resolution of about 700 pixels width to see our exercises. This is because they contain diagrams and tables which would not be viewable easily on a mobile phone or small laptop. Please use a larger tablet, notebook or desktop computer, or change your screen resolution settings.

Create a macro to loop over all of the characters in the second paragraph, adding each to the front of a string variable so that you can display the paragraph backwards:

Paragraph written in reverse

The second paragraph in reverse!

Be warned that (like most things in Word) this is not easy, and you will need to read the following notes carefully:

  • The active document in Word can be referred to as ActiveDocument - it has a Paragraphs collection
  • Any paragraph has a Range property, which itself consists of a collection of Characters
  • There is no such thing as a Character object in Word - instead, a Characters collection (bizarrely) consists of individual Range objects, each one character long

When you have finished, save your document with the same name and close it down.

You can unzip this file to see the answers to this exercise, although please remember this is for your personal use only.
