The different Wise Owl courses for Power BI explained
To say the least, it's confusing that Microsoft have two separate tools that do similar things and have similar names!
Software | Notes |
---|---|
Excel Power BI Tools | These comprise PowerPivot (used for importing data from a variety of data sources, and linking the resulting tables together to create a data model); Power Query (allowing you to manipulate data before loading it); Power View (a tool for creating pretty reports within a workbook); and Power Map (allowing you to create interactive maps, when it doesn't crash). |
Power BI Desktop | This standalone application runs independently of Excel. It has less emphasis on generating pivot tables, and more on creating beautiful dashboards supporting drill-down (and publishable online). |
