Power BI | Introduction to DAX exercise | Use the CALCULATE and VALUES functions to omit columns
This exercise is provided to allow potential course delegates to choose the correct Wise Owl Microsoft training course, and may not be reproduced in whole or in part in any format without the prior written consent of Wise Owl.
You can learn how to do this exercise on the relevant Wise Owl classroom training course (sadly for the moment only in the UK).
You need a minimum screen resolution of about 700 pixels width to see our exercises. This is because they contain diagrams and tables which would not be viewable easily on a mobile phone or small laptop. Please use a larger tablet, notebook or desktop computer, or change your screen resolution settings.
Create a new Power BI Desktop file, and load the tables from the workbook in the above folder into your model.
Create measures so that you can display this table:
The last 3 columns omit (respectively) the air, land and water figures.
You'll need to create 3 measures, each one combining the CALCULATE and VALUES functions to omit one particular environment value.
Too easy? Combine the SUMX and FILTER functions to show the following table:
The last two columns come from measures summing the sales quantity (but instead of doing it over the entire purchases table, they just do it over those purchases which cost at least 10 pounds or less than 10 pounds, respectively).
Save your file as DAX fun, then close down the instance of Power BI Desktop that you're using.
