A new Excel function and a new short-cut key (plus a few older ones)

Excel has a new image function, which allows you to include pictures within cells: it's fun, and easy to use! Excel also now has a short-cut key to invoke Power Query; our blog about this includes a few useful short-cut keys we unearthed in researching this and didn't previously know about, together with our nomination for the most pointless short-cut key in Excel.

One published Power BI update, one hidden one and a tool for showing tables/columns not being used

The December update of Power BI made slicer formatting more sensible and introduced the new INDEX, OFFSET and WINDOW DAX functions, but we also noticed a new feature to reset visual formatting which appeared some time in January without fanfare. Staying with the Power BI theme, RADACAD's clean-up tool allows you to see which columns and tables you're not using, among other things.

In which other dialects of SQL should we offer tailored training?

We've offered training courses in SQL for many years now, but always just in T-SQL, the dialect for SQL Server. We've decided now to extend our SQL product offering, and would love to hear from you if you use PL/SQL, MySql, PL/SQL, PL/pgSQL or SQLLite.

A big welcome to Simone, our new (and first ever!) marketing manager

Although we've had marketing help before (most notably from Karen), we've never had an in-house (albeit part-time) marketing manager. Until now, that is! A big welcome to Simone, who extends the Wise Owl family in more ways than one.

Explanation of answers for (and winner of) our Christmas quiz
