We are now running courses in Office Scripts, a genuine successor to VBA for Excel

Microsoft have been trying to kill off VBA for years, and have finally come up with a worthy successor. Find out what Office Scripts training we offer, or book on one of our two-day Introduction to Office Scripts course (the first one is scheduled in May - it takes a LONG time to write our courseware and exercises!).

Wise Owl in Blackpool - presenting on Power BI at the APSE Performance Networks 2022 seminar

APSE is short for the Association for Public Service Excellence - their mission is to help local authority members to benchmark performance and exchange best practices. We helped them a while back with the design of a new database, and on Thursday of last week Sam presented a Power BI report showing a possible way forward to APSE members at the 2022 Performance Networks conference. You can see Sam in action here - or book him for your own event!

A big Power BI update, paginated reports in Power BI and tweaks to our Power BI Data course

The November Power BI update includes the roll-out of field parameters for dynamic slicers, more flexible shared multiple axes and (at last) a (slightly unsatisfactory) way of debugging DAX. You can also use the paginated report visual to include Report Builder/SSRS reports within a Power BI Desktop report (this blog shows how to publish and then embed paginated reports). And finally on Power BI, we've tweaked our two-day Advanced Power BI (Data) course to include sections on Power Apps and Power Automate, and to make some other sections optional (details here).

Using Aspose's Words.Net to generate PDF versions of our Word manuals

To make our Microsoft Word course manuals available online we're having to turn them into PDF documents, without losing any fidelity along the way. Read how we got on with Aspose Words.Net to accomplish this in C#, rather than VBA (there's an Excel.Net version of this utility too called Cells.Net).

A quick update on how our HTML editor using PyQt5 is going

A few months ago (in July, to be exact) I blogged enthusiastically on how and why we were creating our new HTML editor in PyQt5. Alas, I spoke to soon, and we have returned to the drawing board, tail between legs - here's why.
