This month's update is a biggie, with the introduction of a page navigator and a bookmark navigator, but it's the new formatting pane waiting in preview which will really changes people's lives.

You need a minimum screen resolution of about 700 pixels width to see our blogs. This is because they contain diagrams and tables which would not be viewable easily on a mobile phone or small laptop. Please use a larger tablet, notebook or desktop computer, or change your screen resolution settings.
Bookmark navigators make it easier for you to create menus allowing your report viewers to choose which bookmark they want to view:
Creating bookmark menus like these manually takes a long time and is prone to error. How much better if Power BI could create the menu for you!
This change will make it easier for advanced report developers to create nice easy-to-use report interfaces, but it won't mean much to you if you don't know what a bookmark is.
Creating a bookmark navigator
Let's assume that you've created some bookmarks:
I've created 4 bookmarks, but only want to include 3 of them in my navigator (see below for how to use bookmark groups to achieve this).
You can create a menu allowing you to navigate between bookmarks as follows:

This will create a default bookmark navigator:
The default bookmark navigator automatically includes your bookmarks in the order you have them listed (Power BI also uses the bookmark titles as the button captions).
Choosing which bookmarks to include in your navigator
You can assign a bookmark to a group as follows:
Click on the three dots to the right of any bookmark to assign it to a group.
By adding groups, renaming them and dragging bookmarks around you can create this set-up:
Here I've divided my bookmarks up into two groups.
You can then say which group's bookmarks your navigator should display:
You may need to click off this menu and click back on it to get it to refresh.
You can now only see the 3 bookmarks of interest.
Formatting your bookmark navigator
As for a page navigator, you can format the shapes which make up a bookmark navigator:
I've gone for a weird parallelogram shape!
You can control how the selected button appears by choosing it from the drop list when applying formatting:
Here we're changing how the fill colour and outline border appear for the selected button only.
As for page navigators, you can show your buttons in a row, a column or a grid (whose number of rows and columns you can specify):
I've gone for a horizontal layout, since I've only got 3 buttons.
Here's what all these choices give me:
Whether I've chosen wisely I leave you, the reader, to judge.
In our example, if no bookmark is selected we want to hide all of the charts. To do this, first add a bookmark to return to this default state:
I've added the bookmark inside my group, so by default it will appear as an extra option in the navigator.
You can now choose the following choices to get the navigator appearing correctly:
Here we are saying that a user can click on a button to select or deselect the bookmark. If no bookmark is selected this will be treated as if the user went to the Default state bookmark (which we've chosen NOT to display in our navigator as a separate choice).
If no bookmark is selected, you'll now see this:
You can't see the Default state bookmark, but it is as if someone had gone to it.
All in all, a great change: anything which makes creating bookmarks less fiddly is to be welcomed with open arms!
