Power BI July 2021 Update
Part one of a four-part series of blogs

This month's update sees the launch of small multiples, a range of new dynamic format properties and the roll-out of sensitivity labels.

  1. Power BI July 2021 Update (this blog)
  2. Small multiples
  3. Lots more conditional properties available
  4. Sensitivity Labels

We've been creating our idiosyncratic monthly blogs on Power BI updates since November 2016, and also deliver online and classroom Power BI courses.

You need a minimum screen resolution of about 700 pixels width to see our blogs. This is because they contain diagrams and tables which would not be viewable easily on a mobile phone or small laptop. Please use a larger tablet, notebook or desktop computer, or change your screen resolution settings.

Power BI July 2021 Update

This update includes the following main changes:

Change Details
Small multiples You've been able to create grids of miniature charts for some time in preview, but small multiples are now officially part of Power BI
Conditional formatting A new raft of formatting properties can now be set dynamically using conditional formats, including axis scaling and gauge colouring.
New model view The new model view for Power BI was enabled by default in May (when I blogged about it), but was not officially released until this month.
Sensitivity labels These are now included in Power BI, although unless you work for a very large multinational organisation you may not feel the need to use them!

There's also a new visual in town:

Power Automate

This visual allows you to create Power Automate flows.

However, since this is still currently in preview I will follow my usual policy and postpone blogging about it until it's officially included in Power BI.
