COVID-19: Choose between our familiar (but now socially distanced) classroom training courses and our excellent new live online courses.
Our website gets a revamped search facility
We've rewritten our search results page so that it's actually useful, as this short blog explains.

Posted by Andy Brown on 23 July 2020

You need a minimum screen resolution of about 700 pixels width to see our blogs. This is because they contain diagrams and tables which would not be viewable easily on a mobile phone or small laptop. Please use a larger tablet, notebook or desktop computer, or change your screen resolution settings.

New search feature

We've reinstated our search box, but with a big difference - it now returns useful results!  Here's a quick tutorial in how to use this, using the example of someone wanting information on scraping websites in VBA.

This isn't a random choice - for some reason, it's our single most popular blog, and close to our most popular page.

To start with, type your search phrase into the search box:

Scraping websites search

Type into the search box the thing you want to find, and click on the GO button.

Click on one of the headings which appears:

Search results

This search returned 5 pages about our courses, 9 video tutorials and one blog page.

You can then click on any page to visit it:

Going to a page

This person is about to visit a blog page about scraping websites in VBA.

Only pages with a relevance of 400 or above are shown (or for training pages, 200 and above).  If anyone is interested, our search facility uses the SQL Server FREETEXTTABLE function as its engine.
