New features in the December 2017 update of Power BI Desktop
Part six of a six-part series of blogs

Field descriptions anyone? This is a fairly minor update, although we like responsive horizontal slicers, and there are some exciting things coming up in preview mode.

  1. December 2017 Updates
  2. Field descriptions
  3. Scatter charts now compare numerical values
  4. Responsive slicers
  5. Drilling down filters all visuals for a page
  6. Undocumented new features (this blog)

For a cumulative list of all of the updates to Power BI Desktop in the last few months, see this blog.  Our two-day Power BI Desktop course always uses the latest version of the software.

You need a minimum screen resolution of about 700 pixels width to see our blogs. This is because they contain diagrams and tables which would not be viewable easily on a mobile phone or small laptop. Please use a larger tablet, notebook or desktop computer, or change your screen resolution settings.

Undocumented new features

I'm probably being a bit unfair to Microsoft here.  I think that these are changed features, but it's possible I'm wrong and I just hadn't noticed the changes in previous releases.

Arrows to change font size

I swear these weren't there before!

These arrows are very welcome!

Moving to front/sending to back in the selection pane

Last month I blogged about how you can choose to select different items on a report:

Enabling the selection pane.

You can now change the Z-order of items (that is, whether they appear in front of or behind other items):

Z-order

Click on an arrow to move the selected item in front of or behind other items.

And with that, I think I've finished showing the interesting updates for December 2017!
