You need a minimum screen resolution of about 700 pixels width to see our exercises. Please use a larger tablet, notebook or desktop computer, or change your screen resolution settings.
The aim of this exercise is to create a drill-through action for an Excel pivot table based on a cube:
We should be able to double-click on a cell or choose the menu option shown above to get this to work
Create a new cube (with associated dimensions) or open an existing one. Make sure that you have two measures visible, giving:
- sales (this is probably called Value); and
- the number of rows from the transactions fact table.
Create an action allowing you to drill-through, but only where the number of rows from the transactions fact table is more than 10.
Set a condition for the action to be something like: [Measures].[NumberRows]>10
Browse your cube and check that your action works.
Now create an Excel connection to your cube, and use this to create a pivot table.
Does the drill-through work in Excel? Or does it produce an error message like this?
The start of the error message you may see
See if you can solve this (we can't!). You may find http://tinyurl.com/4xfxeq7 a good place to start.
