Visio 2010 finally includes the much-vaunted Microsoft ribbon, and makes it much easier to lay out your diagrams professionally.
Specific new or changed features in Visio 2010 include:
Visio 2010 finally replaces the menus and toolbars of old with the ribbon (or Fluent User Interface as Microsoft like to call it).
You can customise the ribbon to create new tabs with your own groups of controls.
The Shapes Window now allows you to do much more in terms of organising and finding shapes. Each stencil now has a Quick Shapes area at the top containing the most frequently used shapes from that stencil.
You can rearrange the shapes on each stencil by simply clicking and dragging them around.
You can open new stencils and search for shapes from the top of the Shapes Window.
When you have multiple stencils open the Quick Shapes area shows the frequently used shapes from each stencil.
It’s now much easier to arrange your shapes on the page to make sure they’re aligned precisely and distributed evenly.
Automatically connecting shapes in a flowchart has been improved to allow you to choose which shape to add.
When you drop a new shape in between existing shapes Visio will intelligently rearrange the diagram to accommodate it.
It’s now much easier to see the borders and margins of the drawing page without having to visit the Print Preview.
If your diagram spills over the edge of the page Visio will automatically expand the page size to make sure everything still fits.
Containers provide a way to group several shapes together visually.
You can view a full list of changes in recent versions of Visio by returning to our main Visio version history page.
