Exercise: Rank regions by number of sales using the RANKX function

You need a minimum screen resolution of about 700 pixels width to see our exercises. This is because they contain diagrams and tables which would not be viewable easily on a mobile phone or small laptop. Please use a larger tablet, notebook or desktop computer, or change your screen resolution settings.
If you haven't already done so, run the SQL script in the above folder in SQL Server Management Studio to generate a database (not for commercial use or copying) called MAM.
Again if you haven't already done so, create a new project called BaseModel, and import the following tables: tblAnimal, tblCentre, tblCentreType, tblPos, tblProduct, tblQuadrant, tblRegion, tblSpecies, tblStore, tblTown, tblTransaction. Delete any measures already created.
Create a measure which ranks regions according to the count of the number of transactions. The syntax of the RANKX function is shown below:
Only the first two arguments are compulsory.
Use this measure to show the following pivot table (there's very little variety between species):
If your pivot table shows 1 in every cell, you're ranking the number of transactions within the current query context, rather than against all of the regions in the region table.
If you want to keep a copy of what you've done, use DAX Editor to create a copy of your measures with extension .dax called Suspiciously similar data, and save your workbook with the same file name.
