Before you can do this exercise, you'll need to download and unzip this file (if you have any problems doing this, click here for help).

You need a minimum screen resolution of about 700 pixels width to see our exercises. This is because they contain diagrams and tables which would not be viewable easily on a mobile phone or small laptop. Please use a larger tablet, notebook or desktop computer, or change your screen resolution settings.

If you haven't already done so, restore the database in the above folder into Analysis Services in Management Studio (not for copying or commercial use). The database should contain 3 dimensions and one cube called MAM.

Create a report, with a dataset which looks something like this:

Dataset for matrix

The dataset should have the fields shown.

Now create a matrix, and add a gauge (and associated label) to it to get a report which looks something like this:

A matrix of gauges

The report doesn't have to look exactly like this - treat this as an excuse to play around!

Save this report as Flickery red lines, and close it down.
