Before you can do this exercise, you'll need to download and unzip this file (if you have any problems doing this, click here for help).

You need a minimum screen resolution of about 700 pixels width to see our exercises. This is because they contain diagrams and tables which would not be viewable easily on a mobile phone or small laptop. Please use a larger tablet, notebook or desktop computer, or change your screen resolution settings.

If you haven't already done so, restore the database in the above folder into Analysis Services in Management Studio (not for copying or commercial use).  The database should contain 3 dimensions and one cube called MAM.

Create a new report, and include the Animal dimension attribute and Quantity measure.

Use the SWITCH function to create a new expression called Legs to give the number of legs for each animal, using this impeccable logic:

Animal Legs
Snake 0
Penguin or Owl 2
Anything else 4

Create a table listing out all of the animals, with their legs and quantities sold:

Simple table of animals

What your table should show for each animal.

Now format the quantity so that it shows with a different background colour if an animal has four legs:

Conditional formatting

The table, with quadrupeds shaded.

Save this report as Four legs good, then close it down.
