Before you can do this exercise, you'll need to download and unzip this file (if you have any problems doing this, click here for help).

You need a minimum screen resolution of about 700 pixels width to see our exercises. This is because they contain diagrams and tables which would not be viewable easily on a mobile phone or small laptop. Please use a larger tablet, notebook or desktop computer, or change your screen resolution settings.

Press CTRL + D to add the file called frmApplication.vb from the above folder into your project (or right click on the project and choose to add it as an existing item).  You may need to overwrite an existing copy of this form in your project to do this.

Change your project's properties to make this the default form for your project.  When you run your project, you should see this:

Full application form

The code behind to validate the form entries should be included already.  Note that the names of the controls are shown in the diagram above.

The code attached to the Apply button currently looks like this (after checking that all of the form's boxes have been filled in):

'if we get here, it's OK to do something with this data - so write out

'values entered to text file

'writeFormData()

Uncomment this call to the procedure called writeFormData, then write the procedure.  Here's the sort of text file it should produce:

List of applicants

After 3 applicants have been submitted, here's what your text file might look like.  Whoever thought that about Kermit?

That's it!
