Exercise: Table with two grouping levels and subtotals

Before you can do this exercise, you'll need to download and unzip this file (if you have any problems doing this, click here for help).

You need a minimum screen resolution of about 700 pixels width to see our exercises. This is because they contain diagrams and tables which would not be viewable easily on a mobile phone or small laptop. Please use a larger tablet, notebook or desktop computer, or change your screen resolution settings.

This challenging exercise asks you to create a report showing all of the actors appearing in films made by directors whose names start with B (please see notes overleaf):

What the first page of the report should look like

Some notes to help you:

  • You should apply a filter to the table so that you only see directors whose names are like B*
  • Your report will have two grouping fields: by director name, and then by actor gender

At the bottom of the table you should show a grand count:

There should be 43 cast members in all for the report

When you're all done, save this report (grammatically) as Who directed whom.
