Exercise: List - table and chart for films by certificate

Before you can do this exercise, you'll need to download and unzip this file (if you have any problems doing this, click here for help).

You need a minimum screen resolution of about 700 pixels width to see our exercises. This is because they contain diagrams and tables which would not be viewable easily on a mobile phone or small laptop. Please use a larger tablet, notebook or desktop computer, or change your screen resolution settings.

Create a new report, and within this create a dataset which shows the certificate, run time and id for each film:

The results, in no particular order

Add a calculated column called Length to this dataset to show the length of each film as Short, Medium or Long using a similar expression to this:

Use the SWITCH function to distinguish between the 3 cases

Now use a list to create the following report.  You'll need to group the list by the film certificate, and the table within the list by the Length calculated field:

The list shows a table and report for each group item

Save this report as Chart and table, then close it down.
