Exercise: Listing events, using PRINT and text output

Before you can do this exercise, you'll need to download and unzip this file (if you have any problems doing this, click here for help).

You need a minimum screen resolution of about 700 pixels width to see our exercises. This is because they contain diagrams and tables which would not be viewable easily on a mobile phone or small laptop. Please use a larger tablet, notebook or desktop computer, or change your screen resolution settings.

If you haven't already got it set up in SQL server, restore the Historical Events database from the above folder.

Create a new query, and choose to redirect its output to text.

Using the PRINT statement, write your query so that it lists out the following columns from the tblEvent table:

  • EventName
  • EventDate

Your query should produce the following text results:

You may have to scroll over to the right to see the event date column

Save this query as Printed list.sql, then close it down.
