This Microsoft Word PARAGRAPH STYLES exercise is provided to allow potential course delegates to assess their suitability for the Wise Owl ADVANCED WORD course only, and may not be reproduced in whole or in part in any format without the prior written consent of Wise Owl.

Exercise: Styles - Creating new styles

1) Download the files needed to start this exercise: exercise-770.zip (and click here if you experience any problems unzipping this file after downloading it).
2) Open the document called:        Data Protection Act.doc
3) Create the following new styles - available only in this document:
  • Report Heading - based on Heading 1 with font size 20, red, centred and with a line above and below and shading
  • Report Subheading - based on Heading 1 with font size 18 and centred
  • Section Heading -  - based on Report Subheading with font size 16, left aligned and a fancy line above
4) Apply your new styles to the appropriate text as shown below:

5) Modify your new styles as follows:
  • Report Heading - Increase the font size to 22 and add the Small Caps format.
  • Section Heading - Reduce the font size to 14 and add a right paragraph indent of 3.5cm.
6) Save the document with a new name:        Data Protection Act with new styles
7) Close the document .  In a new document type in the following:

8) Use the Organizer to make the styles you created in the Data Protection Act with new styles.doc document available in this document.
9) Apply some of your styles to the headings in your new document as shown below:

10) Close this new document without saving the changes.
