This Microsoft Visual Basic RECORDING MACROS AND BUTTONS exercise is provided to allow potential course delegates to assess their suitability for the Wise Owl EXCEL VISUAL BASIC course only, and may not be reproduced in whole or in part in any format without the prior written consent of Wise Owl.

Exercise: Following maze by recorded macros

1) Download the files needed to start this exercise: exercise-111.zip (and click here if you experience any problems unzipping this file after downloading it).
2) Record 4 macros to work as follows:
  • A new macro called Down, such that when you press SHIFT + CTRL + D the macro takes you down one cell
  • A new macro called Up, such that when you press SHIFT + CTRL + U the macro takes you up one cell
  • A new macro called Left, such that when you press SHIFT + CTRL + L the macro takes you left one cell
  • A new macro called Right, such that when you press SHIFT + CTRL + R the macro takes you right one cell
3) Test your macros out by starting at cell B2 and pressing the appropriate sequence of keys:

4) Now record a fifth macro called Cheat, which takes you straight to the cell containing the gold, regardless of your current starting position.
Training exercise hint Think carefully about whether you should be recording in relative or absolute mode.
5) Save and close down the file you have opened.
