Exercise: Seating Plan - Link to Database
| 1) | Download the files needed to start this exercise: exercise-508.zip |
| 2) | Open the file Seats for Export.vsd |
| 3) | Select all the chair shapes and from the menu choose Tools Add-Ons Visio Extras Link to Database... |
| 4) | From the Name: drop list choose Excel Files and select the file Guest Data.xls |
| 5) | Modify the field links to match the diagram shown below: |
The most important thing is to get the key field correct.

| 6) | Click OK to link to the database. |
| 7) | Open the Excel file Guest Data.xls |
| 8) | Try changing the information for one of the guests in the Visio diagram and updating the database. |
| 9) | Try changing information in the database and refreshing the Visio shapes. |
| 10) | Save the file and close it down. |
