Recording macros exercise

This Microsoft Office RECORDING MACROS exercise is provided to allow potential course delegates to assess their suitability for the Wise Owl WORD FOR GURUS course only, and may not be reproduced in whole or in part in any format without the prior written consent of Wise Owl.

Exercise: Recording simple macros

1) Download the files needed to start this exercise: exercise-929.zip (and click here if you experience any problems unzipping this file after downloading it).
2) Open the file called:        Fireworks for Recording Macros.doc
3) Select the third paragraph that begins "I liked the catherine wheels best..."
4) Record a new macro called:        Purple_box
5) Store this macro in the current document (not the template).
6) Type in a brief description to say that it puts a purple shaded box around the currently selected paragraph and a 2cm indent.
7) Assign the following keys to this macro (if not used for anything else):    ALT + SHIFT + W
8) Don't forget that you are now recording - be careful not to move the cursor as this macro assumes the paragraph is currently selected.
9) Record the following commands:
  • change the font to Lucida Handwriting size 14
  • add a left and right indent of 2cm  (use Format  -  Paragraph... )
  • add a box around the paragraph with light purple shading (use Format  -  Borders and Shading... )
10) Stop recording.
11) Select the fifth paragraph that begins "The big banger rockets..."
12) Run your new macro by pressing ALT + SHIFT + W (or use Tools - Macro - Macros...  Run)
13) Run your macro on each of the children's paragraphs so that your page now looks something like this:

14) Re-save the file with the same name and then close it.
