This Microsoft Office BASIC FORMULAE exercise is provided to allow potential course delegates to assess their suitability for the Wise Owl INTRODUCTION TO EXCEL course only, and may not be reproduced in whole or in part in any format without the prior written consent of Wise Owl.

Exercise: Creating Basic formulae - buying toys exercise

1) On a new workbook type in the text and numbers in the same cells as shown below:

2) In cell D2 create a formula using the following information:
  • Price  =  Price each * Q. Ordered
3) Copy the formula down to the column to work out the other Prices.
4) In cell E2 create a formula using the following information:
  • Discount  =  7 % of price (= 7% * price cell)
5) Copy the formula down to the column to work out the other Discounts.
6) In cell F2 create a formula using the following information:
  • Final Price  = Price - discount
7) Copy the formula down to the column to work out the other Final Prices.
8) In cell B10, create a formula that will add together all the price each figures.
Training exercise hint There is a special button on the toolbar for totals.
9) Copy the total formula across the row to calculate the other column totals.
10) Save the file with the name:     Christmas Present Order
