This Microsoft Excel BASIC FORMULAE exercise is provided to allow potential course delegates to assess their suitability for the Wise Owl INTRODUCTION TO EXCEL course only, and may not be reproduced in whole or in part in any format without the prior written consent of Wise Owl.

Exercise: Basic Formulae - MP Office Expenses

1) On a new workbook type in the text and numbers in the same cells as shown below:

2) In cell D2 create a formula using the following information:
  • Tot Staff Costs  =  No. Staff  *  Hrs Worked  *  8.75
3) Copy the formula down the column to work out the other Total Staff Costs.
4) In cell F2 create a formula using the following information:
  • Govt. Allowance  =  1500 * No. staff
5) Copy the formula down the column to work out the other Govt. Allowances.
6) In cell G2 create a formula using the following information:
  • Credit/Debit  =  Govt. Allowance - Tot Staff Costs - Office Rent
Training exercise hint You will need to think if you need to include any brackets in this formula (BODMAS!)
7) In cell B8, create a formula that will add together all the No. Staff.
Training exercise hint There is a special button on the toolbar for totals.
8) Copy the total formula across the row to calculate the other totals.
9) Save the file with the name:    MP Office Costs
