This Microsoft Excel BASIC FORMULAE exercise is provided to allow potential course delegates to assess their suitability for the Wise Owl INTRODUCTION TO EXCEL course only, and may not be reproduced in whole or in part in any format without the prior written consent of Wise Owl.

Exercise: Favourite cartoon character

A full answer to this exercise is provided as part of the training course!

1) A new digital TV channel has conducted a poll to find the favourite children's TV character.  Type in the results are as follows:

2) Create a formulae which gives the total votes received by Tinky-Winky:
Exercise screen-shot 200 Tinky-Winky's votes are the sum of cells B4, C4 and D4
3) Copy this formula down to give the total votes for each of the characters.
4) Now add in a formula to give the total number of votes cast by each group, as follows:

5) Save this file as Popularity poll.xls, and close it down.
