1) Download the files needed to start this exercise: exercise-180.zip (and click here if you experience any problems unzipping this file after downloading it).
2) The Chancellor has just announced that companies will pay a new tax according to their profit levels:
  • Companies making profits up to £100,000 will pay tax at 20% of their profits
  • Companies making profits between £100,000 and £1 million will pay tax at 25% of their entire profits
  • Companies making profits of over £1 million will pay tax at 30% of their entire profits
3) Disregarding the fact that this is a grossly unfair tax system, create and copy down formulae to give the tax paid for each company:
Exercise screen-shot 259 Your answer should look like this
4) Next year, Trotter Trading declares a loss of (£1,000).  Does your formula still work?  If not, what might a solution be?  Try out your solution to see if it works.
5) Save this file as Tax tables 2.xls, then close it down.

Thank you for showing an interest in this Advanced Excel training course! As mentioned above, full answers to this and other exercises are provided on the course. On all Wise Owl scheduled courses delegates can take away these model answers (together with their own efforts!) on a free USB stick.
