This Microsoft Excel IF AND LOOKUP FUNCTIONS exercise is provided to allow potential course delegates to assess their suitability for the Wise Owl ADVANCED EXCEL course only, and may not be reproduced in whole or in part in any format without the prior written consent of Wise Owl.

Exercise: Credit control - credit controller/group name (LOOKUPS)

1) Download the files needed to start this exercise: exercise-177.zip (and click here if you experience any problems unzipping this file after downloading it).
2) This spreadsheet lists out some aged debts for different credit accounts.  Firstly, insert two columns titled as shown below:

3) Now enter formulae in C2 and D2 to give the group name and credit controller for the given account, by looking them up in the table contained in the Other Data sheet:

4) Now copy these formulae down to all of the other rows:

5) Change the 0 entries to read "Not given" either by:
  • Wrapping an IF function round your formulae; or
  • Applying suitable number formatting
6) Your final spreadsheet should start like this:

7) Save this as Whew.xls, then close it down.
