This Microsoft Excel NUMBER FORMATTING exercise is provided to allow potential course delegates to assess their suitability for the Wise Owl ADVANCED EXCEL course only, and may not be reproduced in whole or in part in any format without the prior written consent of Wise Owl.

Exercise: Apply number formatting to variances

1) Download the files needed to start this exercise: exercise-154.zip (and click here if you experience any problems unzipping this file after downloading it).
2) Apply formatting to the actual, budget and variance columns so that:
  • Positive numbers appear with two decimal places
  • Negative numbers appear with two decimal places in brackets
Training exercise hint Your positive number format should include the _) characters to make sure that a space is left to the right of each number the width of a bracket.
3) Extend your number format so that zeros appear as "£0" - your final worksheet should look like this:

4) Close this workbook down without saving any changes.
