This Microsoft Excel 2007 RANGE NAMES AND ABSOLUTE REFERENCES exercise is provided to allow potential course delegates to assess their suitability for the Wise Owl EXCEL 2007 BUSINESS MODELLING course only, and may not be reproduced in whole or in part in any format without the prior written consent of Wise Owl.

Exercise: Tallest Buildings - Range names

A full answer to this exercise is provided as part of the training course!

1) Download the files needed to start this exercise: exercise-816.zip (and click here if you experience any problems unzipping this file after downloading it).
2) Create the following range names:
  • Storeys - referring to G2:G99
  • Metres - referring to H2:H99
  • Cost - referring to I2:I99
  • Cost_per_Storey - referring to J2:J99
  • Cost_per_Metre - referring to K2:K99
3) The quickest way to create several range names is by using the Create Names option:

4) Use the range names you have created to calculate the following values:
  • Cost_per_Storey
  • Cost_per_Metre
  • All the statistics in the yellow cells at the bottom of the list
5) You can use the range names in the functions that you need to use:

6) Save the file with the same name and close it down.
