This Microsoft Excel 2007 VALIDATION AND PROTECTION exercise is provided to allow potential course delegates to assess their suitability for the Wise Owl EXCEL 2007 BUSINESS MODELLING course only, and may not be reproduced in whole or in part in any format without the prior written consent of Wise Owl.

Exercise: Mortgage validation and protection

1) Download the files needed to start this exercise: exercise-1038.zip (and click here if you experience any problems unzipping this file after downloading it).
2) Apply validation so that you see the following message if you type a ridiculously high house price in cell D7
Exercise screen-shot 2403 £1,000,000 might be a sensible limit for an IT trainer
3) Now apply validation so that if you type in a deposit of less than £10,000 in cell D8 you see this disturbing message:

4) Apply validation so that a user of your model can only choose one of the regions held in the Regions worksheet:
Exercise screen-shot 2405 When you click in cell D5, a drop-down list should appear
5) Use worksheet protection settings so that a user can only change the values in the yellow cells.
Exercise screen-shot 2406 Don't forget to unlock the cells before protecting the sheet
6) Save the file as Model with validation, and close it down.
