This Microsoft Access CREATING QUERIES exercise is provided to allow potential course delegates to assess their suitability for the Wise Owl BASIC QUERYING IN ACCESS course only, and may not be reproduced in whole or in part in any format without the prior written consent of Wise Owl.

Exercise: Criteria - biggest companies

A full answer to this exercise is provided as part of the training course!

1) Download the files needed to start this exercise: exercise-711.zip (and click here if you experience any problems unzipping this file after downloading it).
2) Open the database in the above folder.
3) An analyst has asked you to show all of the German companies in the insurance industry with sales of more than 100 (billion dollars) and market value of less than 100 (billion dollars). 
4) Create a query showing that Allianz Worldwide is the only such company, and save this query as ComplexFiltering1.
5) A second analyst (aren't they a pain?) has proposed the following investment strategy - to buy any companies with market value of less than 50 (billion dollars) who either:
  • have sales of more than 85 (billion dollars); and/or
  • assets of more than 500 (billion dollars).
6) Create a query showing that Fortis and Generali Group are the only two companies you should buy using this criteria combination, and save this as ComplexFiltering2.
7) A third analyst has proposed the following investment strategy - to buy any companies which have 10 letters in their name but no spaces.  Create a query to show that this would yield the following companies:

8) Save this query as ComplexFiltering3, then close it and your database down.
