This Microsoft Access USES OF MACROS exercise is provided to allow potential course delegates to assess their suitability for the Wise Owl ACCESS INTRODUCTION FOR DEVELOPERS course only, and may not be reproduced in whole or in part in any format without the prior written consent of Wise Owl.

Exercise: Validating owner input data

1) Download the files needed to start this exercise: exercise-352.zip (and click here if you experience any problems unzipping this file after downloading it).
2) Create a new form called frmOwners for entering pet owners (it doesn't have to look like the example shown below):

3) Use macros attached to the BeforeUpdate event of the form to apply validation so that it is impossible to save a record unless:
  • The owner's name is filled in;
  • The date of birth is filled in;
  • The date of birth lies between 1st January 1900 and 31st December 2010
4) Save and close this form.
