This Microsoft Access DESIGNING A DATABASE exercise is provided to allow potential course delegates to assess their suitability for the Wise Owl ACCESS INTRODUCTION FOR DEVELOPERS course only, and may not be reproduced in whole or in part in any format without the prior written consent of Wise Owl.

Exercise: Create Pets Database and Owner Table

1) Create a new database called Pet Database.mdb.
2) Create a table of pet owners with the following fields:
  • OwnerId (AutoNumber) - Key Field
  • OwnerName (Text)
  • OwnerDOB (Date/Time) - Short date
  • Celebrity? (Yes/No)
3) Save this table with the name Owner.
4) Enter the following records into this table:
  • Vicki, a celebrity born on 12/01/1969
  • Dean, born on 08/06/1957 (but not a celebrity)
  • Fred Flintstone, a celebrity born on 24/12/1979
5) Add yourself as an owner; deciding whether you qualify as a celebrity!
